As Christianity took hold of its identity in 325 at the Council of Nicea, this statement of faith was written by a young Deacon, St. Athanasius at the Council. We still say it two millennia later. It makes clear the historic place of Jesus the Incarnate God-Man, His trial, execution, death, resurrection with the gift of eternal life given to all. We learn that the battle of faith is a journey of uncertainty. It has its moments of good and evil. As God’s children we strive to make God’s caring love our mainstay for living.
This journey of spiritual perception came to be a general rule of life at this holy season. As for food, we eat modestly and pass by favorite items for mental and physical discipline. With prayer we spread out our wings and attend the special services of Holy Week – the sacred events of Christ’s life that lead to Redemption at the Cross. We center on Prayer, set aside steady moments each day to personally connect with Heaven and Earth – Father, Son, Holy Spirit.
We also take on goals of providing shelter, clothing, food and fundraising for those of compromised living. It’s not just giving up items, but stretching out to take on the concerns of the world/creation, hatred, racism, those who have no place to be somebody.
With Thinking Peace to do God’s work let’s make this Lent a time finding our path of Love in the Way.
